African-Caribbean cultures traditionally place great importance on the care for, and respect of the elder generation. Mindful of this concept, Abela 's senior citizen's programme seeks to provide reciprocal, creative and therapeutic environments empowering elders to both learn from, and inform the practice of younger facilitators.
Grounded in the circular nature of community theatre, folk song and movement, Abela's senior citizen's sessions elicit from their participants key, common elements through the reminiscence process; animating these elements through music, song and drama drawn from the groups common experience.
